OUR TEAM

Binners’ Project includes a core group of Binners members, a Steering Committee, and 29 staff members, including 25 binners.

Binners' Project is a project on the MakeWay's Shared Platform.

CORE STAFF

Landon is joining Binners' Project and is excited to return to the work of supporting local economic development and social inclusion.

He moved to Vancouver in 2011 to complete his masters in Urban Studies at Simon Fraser University. Since then, he has worked in Community Engagement with the SFU Sustainability Office and SFU Public Square, and also served as Executive Director of Hastings Crossing Business Improvement Association.

Landon is passionate about bringing those with lived experience into conversations and actions toward making our city a better place for all.

Davin Boutang – Community Specialist
In his role as Community Specialist, Davin helps other binners build their capacity. He enjoys working on healthy economic opportunities for people living on the margin.

Davin moved to Vancouver in 1999 and soon found himself reliant on binning to make ends meet. As he became an expert in navigating the local informal economy, he gained the insight and lived experience needed to work within the community.

After working at bottle depot United We Can for six years, Davin joined Binners Project as a binner in 2014, and then became part of the core staff. He sits on the Exchange Inner City board and also consults with Eastside Works, an income generation hub located in the heart of Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.

Brianne is passionate about social justice and creating healthier environments for our communities to live in. Binners’ Project lives into these passions with its combined efforts in advocating for the legitimization of work for binners in Vancouver, as well as the ecological benefits binning has for the community.

In her role as the Manager of Communications and Development, Brianne assists with Binners’ Project's communications, community engagement initiatives and fundraising.

Brianne received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and English from the University of Alberta, and received her Master of Public Health in Social Policy from the University of Victoria.

Iris Ting – Manager, Social Enterprise Programs
Iris’ family immigrated from Taiwan when she was a year old. She grew up in North Burnaby and has been a Vancouver resident for more than 20 years. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Animal Biology from the University of British Columbia and spent 17 years working for the BC Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in revenue development, humane education and most recently in operations overseeing branches in Northern BC and Vancouver.

She is a non-profit specialist and her passion for recycling/waste diversion and social justice attracted her to Binners’ Project. Iris works directly with our clients and partners and secures additional contracts to create income opportunities for our members.

Iris is also an animal-lover (and admittedly favours dogs), avid runner and unwavering Vancouver Canucks fan.

Social equity and inclusion as goals, urban sustainability as standard – Binners’ Project sounds like the perfect recipe for a stronger and greener community! That’s what pushed Kevin to work with us as the Operation Supervisor.

Moreover, Kevin is also part of the Car Free Vancouver Society as Operations Manager. This non-profit Society reclaims traffic routes as community-focused public space by closing three streets in Vancouver once a year, gathering up to 200,000 attendees during the festivals.

In 2016, Kevin obtained his Masters of Science specialized in Operations Management from Sigma Clermont, an engineering school in Clermont-Ferrand, France and then got recognized as an Engineer In Training of British Columbia.
